Days 6 & 7, July 15th and 16th, 2025
Day 6 and 7, of the French Adventure, (July 15 & 16). These two days blurred together, so I am combining them together. After we returned our rental car, it left us with only Eric’s voiture. That also means there is an economy of space issue. If there are only two people in a car you can fit more things that you purchase over having a third person in the car.
Tuesday morning we discovered that the existing dish washer wasn’t working. It is over 10 years old and we decided it was best to purchase a new one rather than try to repair a geriatric appliance. That meant that Eric and Scott went back to the Darty store in Libourne to order one. They were able to place the order in time for the Friday delivery of our dryer. (It was originally scheduled for last Friday).
They then went to a store named “But” which means a goal in French, and looked at furniture. They ordered a couch and a coffee table. Then they went to a hardware store called Weldome, the grocery store and a boulangerie.
While I remained in the house doing two loads of laundry , putting them on the clothes line to dry, and sorting bed linens that had been washed.
I walked up and down the stairs multiple times as I brought the mattress covers, fitted sheets and top sheets to the different sized beds and then making the beds . I truly felt as if I was getting my daily quota of steps by doing this.
Today we met with our architect/project manager of the renovations. We had a positive conversation with her and showed her some of our concerns that need to be addressed. I’m hopeful that the various details will be addressed soon.
We had an appointment with Orange to install fiber optic to our home. And well, Scott was pessimistic ahead of time that it would be completed today. He was right, they need to return next week. :Sigh.:
The plumber who promised to return today to replace a pump so we can have hot water did not show up. So we will continue to have cold showers and heat water to do dishes.
We did get a delivery of a French sized refrigerator and a television set. Since the fiber optic isn’t installed, the TV is just a big paperweight.
I spent hours trimming overgrown foliage in trying to restore a view of our grapevines from the patio.
At the end of the day I realized that I hadn’t left the house in two days, so I asked Scott to go for a walk. Here are some views taken near our winery and Scott standing inside some of our vines. (These photos were taken after 10 o’clock at night!)
Tomorrow I will likely stay here again tomorrow to be here for deliveries while Eric and Scott go out for meetings. One of which is with the local mairie (town hall) to set up garbage pickups. Since the village is small, they are only open a few days (and hours). Pick up is on Fridays, so hopefully Eric can accomplish this tomorrow!
Here are a few pictures of our kitchen and large living room, Scott in the vineyards, and of our winery from a distance.
More tomorrow!
