The Battle of Castillon Historical Spectacle in July and August
This spectacle is only a few kilometers away from the maison in the village of Castillon-le-Belvès. It is held in the months of July and August for only about five weeks on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The spectacle starts late at night because the sun sets late at night. Located quite close to our maison, visit a chateau, the famous 14th century tower where Michel de Montaigne retreated for a decade and wrote his famous essays that made him an influential philospher of the French Renaissance. There is also a winery on the estate and you can taste their wines. Reservations for guided tours are required, so plan ahead on your visit.

Come and see a medieval construction site where they are building a cathedral. Reservations are recommended as the number of people are limited. There are workshops for children to learn construction techniques, or just tour the construction site.

Roughly a 30 minute drive from Castillon, the Chateau de Duras is a 12th century fortification that has undergone extensive renovation. It isn’t one of the most beautiful chateau’s but is worth the trip to explore this site in the town of Duras.
